The Guide

The Square Guide

A silk scarf is not worn, it is tied. Seven gestures, from the simplest to the most self-assured – and the care that will keep your silk intact.

The base fold — the strip

Lay the square flat, wrong side facing you. Fold two opposite corners towards the center, then fold each edge towards the middle until you reach the desired width. Most knots begin this way.

Knotting

The 90 x 90 cm format—the one used by big fashion houses—lends itself to all kinds of wear: around the neck, in the hair, at the waist, or on a bag handle.

The Classique

What matters most, whatever the circumstances

  1. Fold the square in half, point to point, to form a triangle.
  2. Place it on the chest, point down, and tie the ends behind the neck.
  3. Cross, bring to the front and tie loosely on the side.

Le Parisien

The posture of Parisian women

  1. Fold the square into a strip about five centimeters wide, following the basic fold.
  2. Drape the tie around your neck, one end longer than the other.
  3. Tie a loose half-knot to the side and let the ends live.

The Headband

Hair, crowned

  1. Fold the square into a narrow strip, three to four centimeters wide.
  2. Place the middle of the strip on the forehead, at the hairline.
  3. Tie at the nape of the neck, under the hair, and tuck in the ends.

The Bun

The detail that defines a silhouette

  1. Tie a low bun and fold the square into a soft band.
  2. Wrap the band around the base of the bun, covering the tie.
  3. Tie a square knot and let the ends fall down your neck.

To the Bag

The cheeky touch of a classic

  1. Fold the square into a narrow strip.
  2. Spiral it around the handle, from one attachment point to the other.
  3. Finish with a discreet square knot, or leave the two ends dangling.

The Belt

The size highlighted, effortlessly

  1. Fold the square into a strip about five centimeters wide.
  2. Thread the strap through the loops, or place it directly on the dress.
  3. Tie a square knot on your hip, ends pointing down.

The Shawl

Shoulders, for the evening

  1. Unfold the square and simply fold it into a triangle.
  2. Place it on your shoulders, the point in the middle of your back.
  3. Let it fall freely, or hold the tips of a light knot at the front.

Caring for your silk

A well-maintained silk improves with time. Three steps are all it takes.

The washing

Hand wash in cold water with a mild soap. Gently squeeze, never wring.

Drying

Flat, between two clean cloths, away from direct light and any heat source.

Ironing

At low temperature, inside out, under a thin cloth. Steam, always at a distance.

Between two ports, your square can be folded into its case or rolled without a marked crease—never hung by a corner.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to wash a silk scarf?

Hand wash in cold water with a mild soap. Never machine wash: agitation and heat will irreparably damage the fiber. Gently squeeze without twisting, then dry flat.

Can silk be ironed?

Yes, at a low temperature, inside out, and under a thin cloth. Keep steam at a distance: if directly applied, it can mark the twill.

Is the 90 × 90 cm format suitable for all ties?

This is precisely why we chose this format, that of the great fashion houses: wide enough for the shoulders, yet manageable enough for the neck, hair, waist, or a handbag handle.

How to stow your square between two ports?

Folded in its box or rolled without a marked crease, away from light. Never hang it by a point: the silk would retain the trace of its own weight.
